Chunksters!

We had our 4-month visit with Dr. Neely last week and confirmed what we already knew - the boys are quite the little chunksters. Here are the stats...

Jacob

We're really excited because at our 6-month visit we will start solids!! I see messy, messy babies in our near future! Also, Dr. Neely confirmed that Luke has a tooth "bud" - but no actual teeth popping up just yet.

The boys are getting closer and closer to sleeping through the night - thank goodness! On Saturday they went to bed at 7:30 and did not wake up until 3:00! We could not believe it! Of course, they did not have a repeat performance on Sunday night but that's ok because at least we know we're headed in the right direction!

Today the boys unfortunately had to get another shot - our friend this RSV season, Synagis. Several people have asked me what RSV is and what Synagis has to do with it. Honestly, all I really need to know is that the boys are at high risk for RSV because they were preemies and we don't want it and Synagis helps them stay healthy (along with staying away from large crowds, especially small children). But that doesn't really explain very much so I did some research and here's what I found...

The CDC's definition of RSV:

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the most common cause of bronchiolitis and pneumonia among infants and children under 1 year of age. Illness begins most frequently with fever, runny nose, cough, and sometimes wheezing. During their first RSV infection, between 25% and 40% of infants and young children have signs or symptoms of bronchiolitis or pneumonia, and 0.5% to 2% require hospitalization. Most children recover from illness in 8 to 15 days. The majority of children hospitalized for RSV infection are under 6 months of age. RSV also causes repeated infections throughout life, usually associated with moderate-to-severe cold-like symptoms; however, severe lower respiratory tract disease may occur at any age, especially among the elderly or among those with compromised cardiac, pulmonary, or immune systems.

Synagis is our friend because each shot gives the boys 30 days of virus-fighting antibodies against RSV - that's why they have to get them every month through RSV season. So, that's probably WAY more information than you will ever need about RSV but hopefully it helps explain why we are so isolated from the majority of the world right now. We are counting down the days until April when we can really be out and about with our guys!
